An electric guitar is a musical instrument that is used in almost all genres of music in the modern music world. Solid body electric guitars are marked by the absence of any holes or cavities in the body of the guitar. In this type of electric guitar, the vibrations of the string are converted into electric signals, which are amplified and then made audible with the help of speakers.
The hollow body electric guitars unlike the solid body ones have holes. They also have electronic pickups, but the functioning of is a little different. Since the body is hollow, it also vibrates along with the strings. Henceforth, the pickups need to convert both the vibrations into electric signals.
The third type of electric guitars, semi-hollow type, has a combination of the characteristics of the other two types. This type of electric guitar is found to be comparatively lighter and is found to produce much better sound than the other two.
Over the years, musicians have tried to make their own changes to the regular electric guitar and have found some innovative types of electric guitars. There is the acoustic-electric guitar, which is similar to an acoustic guitar with additional pickups added to it. In this guitar, the pickup converts the vibration of the top of the guitar or the vibration of the body into electric signals rather than convert the vibration of the strings.
Another innovation of the electric guitar is the double neck guitars. This type of electric guitar allows the guitarist to play both the base and the lead on a single piece. Nowadays, other multi-neck electric guitars have also come up which have almost six necks.
Electric guitar has been the innovation in the recent times. There have been some new discoveries like the digital guitar by the reputed guitar manufacturer, Gibson. The digital guitar has the power to convert the analog sound signals into digital ones and eventually give rise to clearer effects.
